I received my Ph.D. from Ohio University and completed both a predoctoral fellowship and a two-year postdoctoral fellowship at Yale University School of Medicine focusing on psychotherapy and assessment. Upon completion, I received a faculty appointment at Yale where I conducted studies that investigated pharmacological and psychological treatments for substance use disorders at their Substance Abuse Treatment Unit. In addition to other publications, in 2000 I published a widely-cited journal article that provides a meta-analysis of the literature on the importance of the client/therapist relationship. I previously had a successful private practice in New Haven and am board certified in Clinical Psychology by the American Board of Professional Psychology. In addition to my private practice, I conduct applied research and provide training in interviewing and assessments.
